Toshiba TG01 introduced
This is the Toshiba TG01! It’s not a notebook although the screen of the TG01 is almost as large as a full size notebook screen! The specifications of the TG01 are: it’s a HSDPA phone with a 4.1 inch WVGA (800×480) touchscreen display, a very fast 1GHz Qualcomm processor, WiFi, A-GPS, Bluetooth, microSD slot, 3.2 megapixel camera and the TG01 is very thin: 9,9 mm. The TG01 has a few drawbacks: there’s just 512 MB of internal memory and the phone is running on Windows Mobile 6.1. As you can see Toshiba has made a fancy layer to hide Windows but it’s still there! The TG01 will be available in Q3 and its price is unknown at this moment. Until then you can enjoy the movie below.
Toshiba Portege G910 review
Shiny Shiny has tested the Toshiba Portege G910 and this reviewer is not too enthusiastic about it. Too bad he spends half of the review on the way the batterycover (doesn’t) open. A missed chance in my opinion. He does have a point though when he comes to the handling of the stylus in comvination with the Windows Mobile software. I think this is a problem of Windows Mobile instead of Toshiba. The past two weeks I have tested the HTC Touch Diamond and this phone has exactly the same problem. Windows Mobile and mobile phones has never been a good combination in my opinion.
Sonim XP1 vs. Samsung M110
Our Dutch PortableGear colleagues have made a funny movie of two tough phones that should be able to withstand sand, water, kicking and more: the Sonim XP1 and the Samsung M110. PortableGear has tested both rivals specifically on the ‘dangers’ listed above. One to watch.

Toshiba Portege G810 at MWC
Toshiba doesn’t belong to the top 5 of mobile phone producers and it’s not expected this will change rapidly. You don’t have to introduce dozens of new phones each year though to stand out. At the MWC in Barcelona Toshiba presented the Portege G810 (not to be confused with the Samsung G810) which probably will stand out in a crowd. The Toshiba Portege G810 is a Windows Mobile smartphone with HSDPA/HSUPA, Wifi, GPS, 3 megapixel camera, 2.8 inch QVGA touchscreen, microSD-slot, FM-radio, Bluetooth 2.0 and mediaplayer. The G810 has a Qualcomm MSM7200 400MHz processor with 128 MB memory. It will probably last 200 hours and has about 4 hours of talktime.

Garmin Nüvifone: all-in-one?
Garmin introduces the Nüvifone. It’s a navigation device with built-in GSM. Or the other way around. It’s a 3G/HSDPA device with a huge 3.5 inch touchscreen, webbrowser, MP3 player, camera (resolution unknown). Of course the maps are included. Some nice features of the Nüvipfone are the “Where am I?” feature which lets you touch the screen at any time to display the exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. The Nüvifone also helps you find your car in an unfamiliar spot or crowded parking lot by automatically marking the position in which it was last removed from the vehicle mount. The so-called Garmin Online service gives you real time traffic information, news, weather and stock prices.

The dimensions, weight, battery capacity and pricing of the Nüvifone are unknown at this moment. These factors will most probably be decisive for the success of the new Garmin. Garmin says it’s the all-in-one device the world has been waiting for. Let’s hope so. We will have to wait until the summer of 2008 before we can check this bold remark
More information about the Garmin Nüvifone can be found here
E-Ten Glofish X650
Las Vegas has treated us well with some nice phone introductions. E-Ten also came out to play and brought the X650 with them. The X650 is an X600 update with VGA screen instead of a QVGA screen. This results in a screen with a higher resolution which is easier to read. The processor is now running at 500 MHz instead of 400 MHz and an FM radio was added. Other specs: 2.8 inch touchscreen, 256 MB internal memory, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and 2 megapixel autofocus camera. The dimensions are 107 x 58 x 14.7mm groot and the weight is 139 grams. Not bad for a Windows Mobile device. The X650 will be available within a few weeks in purple and black.

Cypres Mobile Phone Concept
Normally I don’t write about concept phones. Mainly because in a lot of cases they are made with help of Photoshop. Sometimes though I make an exception. For example for the stunning ‘Cypres’ which is made by designer Nao Tamura.. The only specs we know up till now: transparent case, camera and OLED display. It is unknown whether this phone will be available someday.
