HTC Touch HD vs. Sony Ericsson X1

Josh Woodbuy | HTC, Sony Ericsson | 26-11-2008 14:47

The battle of this week is between the HTC Touch HD and the Sony Ericsson X1. Both devices are running on Windows Mobile and have a really large touchscreen. In fact the HTC Touch HD has one of the largest screens available today. One of the advantages of the HD is that the screen is completely flat. The screen of the X1 has a small edge around it which makes it a bit hard to touch the screen near the corners. Another advantage of the HD is that it’s quite thin. The X1 has to hide a full QWERTY keyboard inside and that’s why it’s a bit… fat. Because of that it feels more robust and of higher quality than the HD. The HTC Touch Pro and Touch Diamond appear in the second part of the movie clip. The Pro has a full QWERTY keyboard which actually makes it a better contestant against the X1 than the HD.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 review

Ze Germans from Areamobile.de have reviewed the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. Their conclusions are as follows: nice aluminium finish, great screen which is not as wide as the iPhone and HTC Touch HD, reasonable multimedia applications, too bad it doesn’t have a equalizer though. The screen is great for watching movies but SE forgot to put in a Flash player so YouTube is out of the question. Battery life is great for such a big touchscreen phone. The X1 is a bit fat because of the retractable keyboard and too bad they have chosen Windows Mobile is their operating system. At the end of the day it’s not my favourite. Let’s wait and see what the BlackBerry Storm will bring us.

XPERIA X1 HYPE

Nice title for a blog post. Without a doubt the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is in the Mobile Phone Hype Top 3 of 2008. Nicely together with the iPhone 3G and the Nokia N96. The iPhone and N96 are finally available, too bad the Xperia X1 still isn’t. For those who still want one: I admire your patience and you will probably like the movie below. It’s only 43 minutes long ;-)

The Xperia X1 is running on Windows Mobile and has a full QWERTY keyboard, a metal casing and WVGA colorscreen with 800 x 480 pixels. At last a Windows Mobile phone with a decent resolution… Other specs: quadband phone with UMS, HSDPA, HSUPA, microSD-slot, 400 MB internal memory, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and a 3,2 megapixel camera.

This is probably the new Sony Ericsson G705. The design of the G705 is really nothing new/spectacuar. It’s a HSDPA slider phone with the well known Sony Ericsson buttons, 2.4 inch display with 262.000 colors, autorotation, 3.2 megapixel camera with flash, GPS, WiFi. More details will follow shortly.

Three new Walkman phones made by Sony Ericsson

Josh Woodbuy | Sony Ericsson | 23-07-2008 16:39

Today Sony Ericsson introduces three new Walkman phones: the W902, the W595 and the W302. Of course W stands for Walkman. Sony Ericsson claims these new Walkman phones sound a lot better than the competition. Let’s wait and see (hear).

The W902 is the topmodel. It’s a candybar quadband phone with 3G and HSDPA, 5 megapixel camera with mineral glass lens, scratchfree 2,2 inch display, 8 GB Memory Stick Micro M2, special music buttons, mediaplayer, Bluetooth, stereospeakers, TrackID and SensMe and will become available in Q4 in three different colors.

The W595 is a quadband slider with 3G and HSDPA, 3.2 megapixel camera, 2,2 inch scratchfree display, 2 GB Memory Stick Micro M2, special music buttons, mediaplayer, Bluetooth, stereospeakers, TrackID and SensMe and will be available in four colors (Q4).

Last and least (specs-wise) is the W302. It’s a nice and thin aluminium quadband candybar with GPRS and EDGE and can be regarded as the successor of the W890. It has a 2 inch display, 2 megapixel camera, a 512Mb Memory Stick (M2) and Bluetooth. The W302 will also become available in Q4.

Sony Ericsson C905 video review

Josh Woodbuy | Sony Ericsson | 07-07-2008 15:31

Our Italian Tecnocino friends have managed to get their hands on the Sony Ericsson C905. The C905 will probably be available in a few months and is meant to be the successor of the Sony Ericsson K850. First impressions: nice large display, six (too) small button, a bit fat but nicely shaped. The specs are not bad at all: quadband slider with GPRS, EDGE, HSCSD, 3G, HSDPA + WiFi, 8.1 megapixel camera with xenon flash, Bluetooth and GPS. Dimensions: 104 x 49 x 20 mm, weight: 136 grams, standbytime: 380 hours.

Sony Ericsson X1 XPERIA preview

Josh Woodbuy | Sony Ericsson | 24-06-2008 10:10

The Nokia N96 and the Sony Ericsson X1 XPERIA are the most awaited two new mobile phone models of 2008 (and 2007…). Nokia and Sony Ericsson are taking quite a risk because they leaked these two new topmodels such a long time before they finally become available. Below you will find a long preview of the X1 XPERIA. Positive: great big screen and nice QWERTY keyboard. Negative: the X1 is a bit… fat and until now I haven’t seen a single phone running smoothly on Windows Mobile. The X1 XPERIA will probably become available in Q4 of this year.

Sony Ericsson C905: 8 megapixel Cybershot Phone

Josh Woodbuy | Sony Ericsson | 14-06-2008 12:41

Quite a lot of pixels but at the end of the day the quality of the lens is the thing that matters most. So let’s just wait and see how the pictures of the C905 will come out of this Cybershot phone. The C905 will probably be presented next week and these are the probable specs: it’s a 3G/HSDPA slider with 2.4 inch QVGA display with scratchfree glass, 8.1 megapixel camera with autofocus, face recognition, Xenon flash and optical zoom, geotagging for pictures and movies through the GPS receiver, WiFi, Bluetooth with A2DP, USB 2.0, 2GB M2 memorycard, 380 hours standby time and TV Out.
